From Full Sail University in Orlando, FL…tonight we get the last stop for Kevin Owens & Finn Balor before they meet up in Japan this Saturday!
The Vaudevillains make their way out to start the show. Man, I was kinda high on this act but that seems like forever ago. I think when they failed to unseat the Lucha Dragons last year for the belts they kind of lost their way. Here come my dudes, Scott Dawson & Dash Wilder!
The Vaudevillains vs Scott Dawson & Dash Wilder
Some back and forth between the teams to start. Gotch catches Dawson with a split legged sunset flip out of the corner! Quick tags by The Vaudevillains as they work over Scott. Dawson backs Gotch into the corner and he & Wilder take control. Strong elbow by Dawson and he follows up with a cover for 2. He & Wilder wrk over Gotch until the hot tag to English. He’s the proverbial house of fire! Big backdrop to Dawson and an atomic drop/big boot combo to Wilder. Forearm to the back of Wilder’s head by Gotch is followed by a crisp swinging neckbreaker by English (apparently called the Whirling Dervish?) and that’s enough for the win!
WINNERS: The Vaudevillains via pinfall
We head to the Performance Center where Becky Lynch tells us that she sprained her hip flexor and will be out a few weeks. She promises to win the NXT Women’s title upon coming back.
Back to Full Sail and Baron Corbin is out now. His opponent, Tucker Knight, is already in the ring. He looks too much like Bull Dempsey.
Baron Corbin vs Tucker Knight
End of Days finishes it in under a minute.
WINNER: Baron Corbin via pnfall
Enzo Amore & Big Cass argue with The Vaudevillains in GM William Regal‘s office. He declares that next week, the two teams will lock up to determine the new number one contenders.
Part 3 of the Finn Balor interview series is up next. For me, this series of videos ranks up there with some of the best they’ve produced. It seems that they know they have something extraordinary with Balor and have done an excellent job building him for Tokyo this Saturday. If you haven’t watched these videos, it’s a must that you do so as soon as possible–especially if you only know Fergal Devitt from his NXT run.
Footage of Eva Marie training at the Performance Center in front of William Regal and the queen, Sara Del Rey!
Emma vs Carmella
Nice back & forth to start, while Corey Graves wonders if the Dana Brooke/Emma relationship is mutually beneficial. Hurricanrana out of the corner by Carmella but Emma is able to take advantage after getting to the ropes. Emma locks on a body scissors and clubs away at the back of Carmella. Carmella make a comeback though and hits a pair of shoulder blocks and a Thesz press. Pair of kicks is followed by a reverse X-factor. Carmella appears to have a seizure which is apparently called the “Staten Island Shuffle”. Welp. Emmalock finishes things up not too long after, thankfully.
WINNER: Emma via submission
Backstage, Bull Dempsey is beating up a vending machine. He’s about to bust it with a chair until William Regal intervenes. They have a funny exchange before Regal warns Dempsey about the consequences of having this conversation again.
Tyler Breeze vs Tye Dillinger
Dillinger on the attack and beats Breeze down in the corner. He mocks Tyler before going for a series of pins. Tye is having much more success here than I imagined he would. The crowd is even chanting “10” at him. Breeze finally starts to come back, hitting a reverse DDT. Hurricanrana by Breeze is followed soon thereafter by the Beauty Shot and Breeze picks up the win.
WINNER: Tyler Breeze via pinfall
Emma & Dana Brooke wander into Sasha Banks locker room. We get some smack talk before Sasha lets them know she’ll take them both on. They accept, but ask who will be her partner? She tells them not to worry, she’ll find a partner.
Finn Balor rises and that means it’s time for the main event!
Finn Balor & Samoa Joe vs Rhyno & Kevin Owens
Rhyno & Joe to start. They trade shots before Joe gets that corner elbow/enziguri combo. Finn gets the tag and hits a beautiful dropkick for 2. Rhyno backs him up to the corner though and in comes Kevin Owens. Sunset flip countered by a seated dropkick by Balor. Finn goes for a suplex, but to no avail. Owens continues to beat on Finn before tossing him outside as we go to commercial…
Owens still in control as we come back and hits a back elbow for 2. In comes Rhyno, who gets a very delayed vertical suplex for 2. Kevin Owens gets the tag and locks in the chinlock. Kevin Owens hits a shoulder block…then another…then a protobomb?! YOU CAN’T SEE ME~! FIVE KNUCKLE SHUFFLE BY OWENS. He’s going for the AA but Balor reverses out of it and gets a double stomp! Finn tags Samoa Joe and he’s on fire! Back senton to Rhyno gets 2. Spinebuster by Rhyno off the disctraction by Owens. Owens charges into the corner and Joe catches him with the uranage. Balor up top and Joe look to be going for the Muscle Buster! Rhyno pulls Finn off the top and Joe gets caught with the pop-up powerbomb! Finn goes for something but Owens hits a superkick…Pele kick by Finn! Rhyno goes for the gore but misses and hits Owens instead! Corner dropkick is followed up with the coup de grace and Finn Balor pins the NXT champ just days before the big show in Tokyo!
WINNERS: Finn Balor & Samoa Joe via pinfall
Wasn’t a huge fan of this week’s episode. There was alot of stuff on here that just seemed kind of there. The Balor stuff was good as was him winning the main event. Really seems that they’re on board with him being the next guy to lead the NXT brand and i would almost be more surprised if he didn’t win this Saturday in Japan. Not much you’ll miss by skipping this week, as you can watch the 3 Finn Balor videos in a collected edition on the Network now.
